Jason Bennett Markowitz's video career actually began because of music. At 14 years old, Jason taught himself the drums and began self-promoting and distributing his music. This shaped his Do-It-Yourself work ethic and eventually led to his future as an entrepreneur. He initially picked up a camera to document his band's US tour and shortly after he began filming local events for hire. By 2008, Jason was shooting and editing events for major music and fashion brands. It was then that he decided to form Sunship Films, to be official home for his expanding clientele.

Sunship Films was named after John Coltrane's 1965 record "Sun Ship": "Through Coltrane, I learned how to turn an instrument into an extension of my soul and how to create a masterpiece from improvisation, which were extremely useful lessons since I started out as a documentary style camera operator." Jason didn't just settle for capturing the moment, he wanted to create it, so he expanded into scripted formats. By now, Jason has worked with many of today's biggest brands and cultural icons as a Director, Editor, and Director of Photography, while also logging experience in nearly every seat on a production, including writing, lighting, sound design and set design.

Nancy McDonald joined Sunship Films in 2010. Prior to that, she was an MTV Executive Producer who has supervised, created, developed and produced original programming for the channel. She was responsible for some of the network’s most historically successful live and posted programming, spanning music, specials, reality and game shows, as well as the network’s many award shows. She has produced six highly rated Video Music Awards, culminating with the highest ever-rated Video Music Awards, hosted by Chris Rock.
